Poetic Pastel & Poetic Pastel Press

Poetic Pastel (est. 2014) is an artist-led, collaborative, independent cultural initiative with multiple forms. Artist Johanna Tagada Hoffbeck founded Poetic Pastel, rooted in the joy and strength of togetherness.

In tune with the deep ecology movement and focusing on Art, Publishing, Textiles and Gardening, Poetic Pastel is an open conversation inspired by natural elements, warm memories, rhythm, colours, feelings, relationships, literature, poetry, tea culture and daily life. Poetic Pastel’s various projects result in exhibitions, gatherings, performances, writings, research, publications, contributions, textiles and quotidian objects. Poetic Pastel hopes to help restore respect for and appreciation of nature. We also wish to highlight that humans are part of nature.

Poetic Pastel is the home of a small publishing house, Poetic Pastel Press, which publishes, amongst others Journal du Thé—Contemporary Tea Culture. The value and ethics of Poetic Pastel are also found in its free public nomadic arts and horticulture project, The Gardening Drawing Club. The Poetic Pastel Studio, with a team of three and its allotment, reside in rural Oxfordshire, England.
